Ravindra Jain - The legendary music director

Post courtesy : Ramrao Tayade in Facebook
Ravindra Jain (28-2-1944 to 9-10-2015) - The blind man who saw it all!
A blind man goes to a doctor.
Doctor says, “ Wait, I am busy!”.
The blind man says, “ Oh, I SEE”.
Normally, I would have brushed aside this pranky joke with a wry smile, but not when it comes to Ravindra Jain, where it virtually becomes a reality. Born with almost closed eyes, he could really see everything with his mind - musical notes, musical instruments, poetry, script, singers - almost everything that's goes into making of a singer, lyricist & music composer of substance.
In one of his OWN poems, he says,
“Face has but two eyes
Mind watches with thousand eyes
Eyes on the face go to sleep
Mind’s eyes are ever vigilant....”
THEY say, “ If body's one organ gets affected, the other organs become more sensitive & strong”. Who-so-ever 'THEY' maybe, they said absolute truth if Ravindra Jain's life and work is to be believed. His mind & other organs worked many-folds more resulting in creation of number of musical gems. Perhaps the sixth sense knows no bounds!
Whenever, I listen to 'Tera mera saath rahe' from 'Saudagar'(1973), the contentment of 'Mahjubhi' (Nutan), after she gets married to 'Moti Miyan' (Amitabh), descends upon me too. He had that rare ability to pass on the mood of the scene onto the viewers through his songs. For instance, listen to his songs like ' Gori tera gaon bada pyaara' or ' Jab deep jale aana' from 'Chit Chor' and many more.
Though he is no more with us since last year, he continues to brighten up our lives with rare musical gems he had gifted to film & music world. Remembering him on his birth anniversary today, we present the same song, 'Tera Mera Sath Rahe' from the film 'Saudagar...

PRAN - the legendary actor

My tribute to the legendary actor who excelled in portrayal of both villian and character actor. Let us watch his biography.

PRAN - Legendary Actor

My pencil sketch of the legendary actor Pran saab who excelled in the roles of villian and character actor. He proved himself as 'second to none' in the portrayal of such roles. It is Manoj Kumar who offered him character roles in his films and Pran saab  then switched over from his 'bad man' roles to character roles. My tribute to this legendary actor on his birth anniversary today.

Kavi Pradeep - A tribute.

Kavi Pradeep (6 February 1915 – 11 December 1998), born Ramchandra Narayanji Dwivedi, was a renowned Indian poet and songwriter who is best known for his patriotic song Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo written as a tribute to the soldiers who had died defending the country during the Sino-Indian War.
His first recognition came for his patriotic lyrics for the film Bandhan (1940). His status as a nationalistic writer got immortalised for writing a daringly patriotic song Door Hato Ae Duniya Walo (Move Away O Outsiders) in India's first golden jubilee hit Kismet (1943) because he was forced to go underground to avoid arrest immediately after the film's release that invited the ire of British government.
In a career span of five decades, Kavi Pradeep wrote about 1,700 songs and nationalistic poems including the lyrics for some 72 films, including hits like Chal Chal Re Naujawan in film Bandhan (1940) and Aao Bachcho Tumhein Dikhayen and De Dee Hame Azaadi Bina Khadag Bina Dhaal in film Jagriti (1954) In 1958, HMV, released an album of 13 songs with his lyrics. He was made the Rashtrakavi, (Poet Laureate), and came to be known as, Kavi Pradeep.

Bhagwan Dada - A tribute

Bhagwan Abaji Pandav, (1st August 1913 - 4 February 2002) better known as Bhagwan or Bhagwan Dada, was acknowledged as an ace comic actor. His musical film, "Albela", released in 1951, has stood the test of time. Even today, in this jet age of electronic entertainment, crowds go hysterical every time they hearShola jo bhadke, dil mera dhadke ... or Bholi surat dil ke khote, naam bade aur darshan chhote... from the film. Whether it is at a film awards function, the disco, the dandiya or weddings, the songs of "Albela" are a must. In fact, every major star from Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda to Mithun Chakraborty and Rishi Kapoor has copied Bhagwan-style slow-moving dancing in their movies.

My tribute to Bhagwan Dada on his death anniversary (4th February)

Waheeda Rehman - Pencil sketch

I wish Waheeda Rehman a very Happy Birthday (3rd February). Waheeda Rehman first appeared in a song sequence in a Telugu film 'Rojulu Marayi' . It was Guru Dutt who spotted her and introduced her to Hindi films. She had  to credit many an outstanding film such as Pyasa, Saheb Bibi aur Gulam, Kagaj ke Phool, Teesri Kasam, Guide, etc. She won an all round acclaim for her portrayal of a very difficult and daring role 'Rosy' in the film Guide.
