బహుముఖ ప్రజ్ఞాశాలి, పద్మభూషణ్, జెమిని సంస్థ అధినేత S. S. Vasan (1904-1969) (pen sketch).

వీరి గురించి టూకీగా :

సుబ్రమణ్య శ్రీనివాసన్, సినీ నామధేయం ఎస్.ఎస్.వాసన్, జెమినీ స్టూడియోస్ అధినేత. . తన రెండు సంవత్సరాల వయస్సులో తండ్రి మృతిచెందినా కృంగిపోలేదు. వాసన్ ఆలోచనలకు పేదరికం అడ్డంకి కాలేదు. ఒకొక్క అడుగూ ముందుకువేస్తూ పలు రంగాల్లో ఉన్నత శిఖరాలను అందుకున్నాడు. వీరు తెలుగు, తమిళ, హిందీ భాషల్లో పలు విజయవంతమైన చిత్రాలు నిర్మించాడు.
'పద్మభూషణ్' పురస్కారం అందుకున్నాడు. భారత ప్రభుత్వం వీరి గౌరవార్ధం తపళాబిళ్ళ విడుదల చేసింది.

చాల ముందు చూపు కల వ్యక్తి, దానికి చక్కటి ఉదాహరణ ఒకటి ఉంది.
ఇప్పుడు మనం చూస్తున్న, అమెజాన్, ఫ్లిఫ్కార్ట్, లాగా 1925 లోనే పోస్టల్ మార్కెటింగ్ ఏజెన్సీ ఒకటి స్టార్ట్ చేసి, ఎవరికి ఏ వస్తువు కావాలన్నా, పోస్ట్ ద్వారా సప్లై చేసే వారు. అంటే ఇప్పుడు మనం చూస్తున్న ఆన్ లైన్ మార్కెటింగ్ లాగా, పోస్టల్ మార్కెటింగ్ అన్న మాట. అసలు సినీ పరిశ్రమకు ఏమి సమబంధం లేని వాసన్ గారు జెమినీ స్టూడియో స్థాపించడానికి వెనుక కూడా ఒక ఆసక్తికరమయిన కధ ఉంది. ” ఆనంద వికటన్ ” అని పత్రిక స్థాపించిన వాసన్ గారికి కొంత మంది సినీ పరిశ్రమకు సంబంధించిన వారితో పరిచయాలు ఏర్పడ్డాయి. 1941 లో అగ్ని ప్రమాదానికి గురి అయి నష్టాలలో ఉన్న” “మోషన్ పిక్చర్స్ ప్రొడ్యూసర్స్ కంబైన్స్” అనే స్టూడియో వేలానికి వచ్చింది,

ఆ స్టూడియో ను వాసన్ గారు 86 ,425 రూపాయలకు కొన్నారు. వాసన్ గారు ఆ స్టూడియో కి “జెమినీ స్టూడియో” అని నామకరణం చేసారు. అప్పట్లో వాసన్ గారు చాల తరచు గ గుర్రపు పందాలకు వెళుతుండే వారట, అయన తన ఫేవరెట్ గుర్రం ” జెమినీ స్టార్ ” అనే గుర్రం మీద పందెం కాసే వారట, ప్రతి సారి ఆయనకు విజయమే, భారీ మొత్తం లో డబ్బులు గెలిచే వారట. ఆలా గెలిచిన డబ్బుతోనే స్టూడియో కొన్నారని,అందుకే తన లక్కీ హార్స్ పేరును స్టూడియో కి పెట్టారు అని ఒక కధనం. కానీ వాసన్ గారు “మిధున రాశి” కి చెందిన వారు కావటం తో తన స్టూడియో కి జెమినీ అని పేరు పెట్టారు అంటారు మరి కొందరు. విజయ వంతమయిన చిత్రాలకు మారు పేరుగ మారారు, ఎంతగా అంటే శ్రీ శ్రీ వంటి మహా కవి, ” సినిమా బాగా నడిస్తే వాసన్, లేకుంటే ఉపవాసన్ ” అని నిర్మాతల గురించి చమత్కరించేటంత.

Ashok Kumar is mostly known for his portryal of character roles. Many of the present generation are not aware how he was looking when he was young. I came across a photo of broad-faced young Ashok Kumar and tried with my pencil.

My respects and regards to Sudha Malhotra ji, yesteryear playback singer. (my charcoal pencil sketch).

Who can forget her excellent songs 'Tum mujhe bhool bhi jao: with Mukesh.. (Film 'Didi'), 'Kasthi ka khamosh safar hai' with Kishore Kumar (Film 'Girl Friend'), Salam-E-,Hasrat qubool karlo, Na main dhan, and qawali 'Na to karavan ki talash hai' in Barasat ki Raat, bhajans 'Na main dhan chahoon' with Geeta Dutt, Darsan do ghan shyam with Manna De and Hemant Kumar etc.

Apart from singing she also acted in some Bollywood films.

As a playback singer,. She sang popular songs for Bollywood movies in the 1950s and 1960s, like Arzoo, Dhool Ka Phool, Ab Dilli Door Nahin, Girl Friend, Barsat Ki Raat, Didi, Kala Pani, Prem Rog and Dekh Kabira Roya. She was last heard in Raj Kapoor's Prem Rog (1982) in the song "Yeh Pyar tha ya kuch aur tha". Apart from Hindi songs, Sudha sang many popular Marathi songs (Bhavgeet) with Arun Date.
